District School Board Ontario North East invites applications from inclusive and action-oriented leaders for the position of Superintendent of Business and Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer from both internal and external applicants.

The Superintendent of Business and Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer is a key leadership position within

the District School Board Ontario North East’s Administrative Council.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position is responsible for the day-to-day administrative and leadership requirements necessary to provide effective and efficient operation of the Board’s business services functions. The Superintendent of Business & Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer is a key staff resource to the Board of Trustees. As a member of the Board’s Administrative Council, they are a strong voice. The Superintendent of Business & Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer will demonstrate commitment to the Board’s vision, mission and three priorities of Achieve, Belong and Create.

Responsibilities will include supervision and oversight of Building Services, Financial Services and Information Services while working proactively with Administrative Council to execute the Board Multi-Year Strategic Plan, Operational Plan and Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement.

The Superintendent of Business and Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer will lead the business functions of the Board, including Finance and Business Services and oversee the Board’s annual budget of more than

$165 million. The Superintendent of Business and Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer will also lead the effective management of the business and financial affairs of the Board, including accounting, audits, budget preparation, financial reporting, purchasing, capital planning, capital financing and transportation functions.

The successful candidate will be expected to monitor the effectiveness of internal processes and to identify, plan and implement required changes (automating procedures, standardizing processes) to continuously improve accountability and service delivery.

District School Board Ontario North East is focused on creating strong and vibrant northern communities through a learning culture which emphasizes excellence for each learner.

The district covers an area of approximately 25 000 square kilometers ranging from Temagami to Hearst to Timmins. The Board serves six First Nations communities, with students enrolled in elementary and secondary schools. District School Board Ontario North East has approximately 7 000 students in 25 elementary schools and 9 secondary schools. Of these students, approximately 35% have either an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or an Informal Individual Education Plan (NIEP) and 20% identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent along with a relevant university degree (preferably at the Masters level) and the Ontario Business Supervisory Officer’s qualifications (or a plan to obtain within one year) in accordance with the Education Act and its Regulations.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate:

·         outstanding educational leadership, including a commitment to collaborative decision-making with peers, staff, Trustees and community partners;

·         strong evidence of student achievement and system success;

·         a commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and supporting learners who identify as Indigenous;

          skills in change management;

·         the core leadership capacities and personal leadership resources in accordance with the Ontario Leadership Framework;

·         experience leading current education initiatives and evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning;

·         knowledge and understanding of characteristics and needs of urban and rural school communities;

·         a proven record in business administration;

·         the ability to navigate through complex, multi-stakeholder settings to build understanding and to gain consensus and;

·         a valid Ontario driver’s license.

Salary:  $158,405 - $176,000 per annum

·         A one-page essay: As the Business Superintendent, you will be responsible for operationalizing the three strategic priorities of achieve, belong and create in DSB1. Describe the ways in which you will do so. In your response, reference the Board’s Strategic Plan, 2025-2029.
